Our History

The Hamilton County Community Tennis Association (HCCTA) provides tennis programs and events in Hamilton County, Indiana, for players of all ages and abilities while nurturing the life skills of players, staff and volunteers.

Formed in 1990, the HCCTA exists to teach our players a lifetime love of physical fitness, the value of good sportsmanship and the importance of giving something back to the community.

HCCTA has a long history of providing programs to our community. In 2004, we were honored by being chosen as the "Community Tennis Association of the Year" by the United States Tennis Association from CTA's across the United States.

HCCTA Receives Grant to Fund Community Programs

The Hamilton County Community Tennis Association received $18,000 in December 2004 from the USTA Tennis and Education Foundation to fund two pilot programs in Hamilton County. The grant is being used to fund the Student Volunteer Program and the Reading Program. The goals of both programs are to involve the youth from different cultures and backgrounds, expand and promote leadership roles for youth in the community and to develop partnerships with community organizations.

There are two programs associated with the reading project. One is to an Individual Reading Program that rewards HCCTA participants for the books they read. The second program is the Family Community Reading Program for Hamilton County families and their guests. The Family program, sponsored by HCCTA, is supported by our own student-advisory council comprised of members from local schools. In 2005 the selected book was Arthur Ashe's Days of Grace, and in 2006 the book was Gayle Sayer's I Am Third. If you would like to participate or help organize events like this, please email Helen Moser Petersen at Helen.Petersen@hccta.org.
