After School Tennis Programs |
|
|
Our after school tennis programs teach beginner tennis in elementary
schools. This program was established in 1996 and has grown to over
500 children participating each year.
The programs teach the kids basic tennis strokes, but it goes much
further than just tennis. In 2000 a tutoring component was added to
assist with the children's learning. A Spanish and English language area
was added in 2002 along with a "Character Counts" theme. In 2003 we
began a child advocacy campaign in the after school programs.
The programs are taught at elementary schools and tennis courts and
pros are not used. This enables us to hold the program at any county
elementary school.
We hold a county-wide awards party at the end of every semester. There
is also a poster of the kids and instructors in each school for each
session.
